About SRBD

The Society of Refined Beer Drinkers was created in 2010, originally as a class project that developed into a community. SRBD is not the first society to start but is the first in Alberta to focus on German and Irish beer. The website and society is run by students who volunteer there free time when they're not slaving over schoolwork. SRBD wanted to develop a community of people who viewed beer as more than just alcohol. When you sip beer, you're sipping culture, history and devotion - not just alcohol.

SRBD's Mission
SRBD found that there is quite a stigma around alcohol - beer in particular. This new way of viewing beer can be enlightening to you, and refreshing to others. SRBD is dedicated to spreading this refined way of viewing beer in the hopes that the stigma will vanish.

SRBD Founders

The Soceity of Refined Beer Drinkers started with four university students: Aretha, Kelly, Ieo, and James. They are students at Grant MacEwan University in the Bachelors of Communications Program.

Aretha
Aretha is third-year student in Communications at MacEwan University. She also has a certificate in Digital and Interactive Media from NAIT. She hopes to one day build up her own small business as a web designer and content writer. On her spare time she like to read, write and walk with her two dogs.

Kelly
Kelly is a third-year communications student at MacEwan University. She loves researching Irish culture, as well as psychology and biology. Next year she is finishing up her school in Ireland, and plans to live and work there for the rest of her life.

James
James is a third-year communications student at MacEwan University. He enjoys reading and writing, taking walks in the park, and drinking German beer.

Ieo
Ieo is third-year student in Communications at Grant MacEwan University. He is an aspiring web content writer. He enjoys art, literature, and film.

How do I join SRBD?

All members who join the SRBD have to be at least 18 years of age, which is the legal drinking age in Alberta. There is no official membership to join The Society of Refined Beer Drinkers. You can keep up to date by following us on twitter and joining our facebook group.
